Circa 1930s, the Telsen Centre is this 4 storey former radio factory stands proudly on a prominent corner in Aston and can be seen from the A38M Aston Expressway.
The building was previously occupied by the Telsen Electric Company Limited, formed by Mr A Macnamara who produced wireless broadcast receivers, components and construction kits.
They also had a cabinet making department turning out polished furniture into which wireless receivers were built.
Instructions on how to build your own wireless receiver were published in the Telsen RadioMag. Memorabilia is dotted around the building for visitors and tenants alike to ponder.
In 1935 the Telsen Electric Company was bought by David Rosenfield Limited who relocated the business operation to Manchester.
In 1982 MIA leased the building from the local authority and refurbished the building into 91 studios, workshops and offices totalling 90,123 sq. ft. In 2002 MIA purchased the building from the City Council.
Ansells Brewery bought the premises at one point for storage of barrels and bottles.
