The history of the building

The plot of land that the Albert Wing occupies was previously a Protestant Dissenting Charity School.

Following the MIA purchase of The Argent Centre, this area of land was let to a wood yard which, over time, was no longer feasible. Following the success of the New Wing (short sighted in the naming of our buildings), the unlettable spaces were redeveloped to offer 16 spaces including 2 retail units.

The works were completed in 2008 and the Albert Wing was officially opened by Councillor Ian Austin.

Did you know?

The building was named the Albert Wing as previously The Argent Centre was in fact called the Albert Works with the Victoria Works opposite. The name change came about by W J Myatt, Silversmiths as Argent is French for silver.
